Gluten is everywhere. We eat bagels and toast for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and rolls with our dinner. The USDA recommends we eat 30% of our calories from grains and prior to myplate was recommending 6-11 servings of grain per day. Doctors and nutritionists in the mainstream media push whole grains as a solution to the problems caused by the standard American diet, which is about as effective as putting out a fire with gasoline.

We talk about being paleo and optimizing health a lot on this site but the reality is that most of the time it…

If you are a woman living in America, you can thank Elizabeth Cady Stanton for your right to vote. She was a leading figure of the early women’s civil rights movement.

The first women’s rights convention was held in 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York. Elizabeth presented her Declaration of Sentiments at the convention and is considered the leader of the first organized civil rights movement for women.

Elizabeth was an abolitionist, but her main goal was women’s rights. However, she considered women’s rights to go far beyond voting. She wanted women to have equal custody rights, property rights, income rights, the right to file for divorce, and birth control rights. She was also a supporter of the temperance movement.

She opposed the fourteenth and fifteenth amendments because she felt that it was wrong for black men to be given Constitutional rights while women (both black and white) were left without these same basic…

What if I tell you that the doctors did not treat us, just wait until we die to cut our bodies?

1. Tuskegee syphilis experiment

In the years 1932-1972, there were a series of experiments on about 400 syphilis-infected black citizens of the United States. The study selected the poor, simple and uneducated – most of them did not even know about their illness. U.S. Public Health Service had promised free treatment to patients. In fact, they were given aspirin. The purpose…

Kevin Rashid Johnson and Oregon’s Isolation Torture Unit

Originally posted on Moorbey'z Blog:

This is an update about Kevin “Rashid” Johnson, a prisoner activist and intellectual who is currently in a dire situation in Snake River Correctional Institution in Oregon.   As was reported last week, Rashid has been in the midst of a health crisis for almost a month now, which has included periods of severe disorientation. For a time he was refusing to eat or drink; as far as our most recent information if concerned, he is currently accepting liquids but still not eating.   Rashid has spent most of his adult life in prison, and almost all of that time has been spent in various isolation units. This is a direct consequence of his actively resisting abuse from prison guards and their lackeys in the 1990s, and to his continued political writing and exposing conditions in America’s carceral nightmare ever since. A New Afrikan Communist and the founder and…

Greece: “A promise from the army has been obtained to not intervene against a civil uprising”

It is always enlightening to hear the frank assessment of a diplomat upon leaving the service, once unshackled from “the patriotic art of lying for one’s country”, as 19th Century American journalist Ambrose Bierce described the craft.

Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos was a career diplomat with the Greek foreign ministry. As a junior officer with the service in the 1970s, he helped assure the then freshly democratic nation’s accession to the European Union (at the time the EEC). He was at different times Athens’ ambassador to Poland, Albania and Canada, and finally the director general of EU Affairs in the ministry.

Last year, he finally resigned as secretary general of the…

Leaked documents reveal US diplomats actually work for Monsanto

Biotech giant Monsanto has been genetically modifying the world’s food supply and subsequently breeding environmental devastation for years, but leaked documents now reveal that Monsanto has also deeply infiltrated the United States government. With leaked reports revealing how U.S. diplomats are actually working for Monsanto to push their agenda along with other key government officials, Monsanto’s grasp on international politics has never been clearer.

Amazingly, the information reveals that the massive corporation is also intensely involved in the passing and regulations concerning the very GM ingredients they are responsible for. In fact, the information released by WikiLeaks reveals just how much power Monsanto has thanks to key positions within the United States government and elsewhere. Not only was it exposed that the U.S. is threatening nations who oppose Monsanto with military-style trade wars, but that many U.S. diplomats actually work…

Reform (think tank) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Our Kingdom – “The BBC’s flagship Radio 4 Today Programme this morning featured fresh research by an organisation called “Reform”, purporting to show that private companies are better than the public sector at running prisons and should be allowed to run more of them. The story is running now on BBC News 24 under the headline: “Private firms better at running prisons – think tank.”

What’s astonishing is not the story itself, but what the BBC neglects to tell us: three private prison contractors are “Corporate Partners” of Reform.

G4S, Serco and Sodexo all donate to Reform, which the BBC tells us is a “centre right think tank” and which describes itself as an “independent, charitable, non-party think tank whose mission is to set out a better way to deliver public services and economic prosperity.”

“Partners in reform”, G4S, Serco and Sodexo, already control…
